I ‘ve been thinking about today prompt, Orchestrate, to arrange or control the elements of, as to achieve a desired overall effect. I really couldn’t think of anything, but then maybe am just over thinking. Being an introvert, like about 75 % introvert it not something I would do according to the defination giving. Am more of keeping a low profile and not trying to obtain some type of control of the elements to get a desire overall effect. Don’t get me wrong, I willing to accept challenges, just not one to seek them. Such challenges I willing to do would be to prove to any employer willing to hire me, that I could do the job required, even though I may lack experience. That seem to be one of many reason why I can’t find a job and now you can add COVID-19. Challenges am not seeking is orchestrating a presentation to a large audience, am not afraid of talking in front of people,I just don’t want the attention. Make sense?
And just to end this post and the prompt theme orchestrate, if you never heard this before, I hope if give you a smile. I heard this when I was taking a music class in college awhile back.
Am starting off the New Year job hunting like I’ve been doing for the past 10 years. To my surprise I’ve already had two job interviews. As many of you already know, job interviewing can be nerve racking. We all read the online advice on how to prepare and ace your job Interview. Watching youtube videos on the most popular questions you’ll be ask in a job interview and what to say and not to say.
From my own personal experience, none of those tips work for me. Let me explain. In my head a job interview is a test expect in a job interview, you don’t know the answer you give is the answer the interviewer want to hear. Oh it BS when they say we want to see if you a good fit for this position/company. Well, Me, am a bad test taker and I found that out during my college years. I would study and prepare for my exams, only to bomb the exam. It was after my freshman year did I get some help and learn that I had a learning disability. Learning about this and receiving some testing accommodations like double time and taking the test in a separate room by myself helped, but I still struggle with testing. Even when I study for the exam.
I forgot to mention that I would be nervous when taking any form of testing. So being in a job interview and an introvert just adds to the nervousness. Any preparations I did in answering those most popular questions, I will sounded like I was unprepared. Well to me it feel that way. I feel myself tripping over my words cause I can’t take my time in answering those questions. Unlike in college, I had double time to take test, so it gave me enough time to formulate my answer to any exam that require a write response like essays.
The most frustrating thing about job interviewing is I don’t know why I wasn’t pick for the position. Is it because of lack of experience, was it the job interview, as one person who was able to give me feed back told me that I have low energy. I could only think he means I don’t sound excited. I will be honest with you, I have a low voice and I can’t do anything about that.
Enthusiasm, energy, I could use some advice, opinions on this subject. So let me first explain the situation. Well let me tell you a little about myself. I would describe myself as clam, down to earth individual. I don’t say much unless am talking about something am interested in. You can just say that am an introvert kind of a person.
Now I’ve been applying to jobs here and there. I’ve interviewed with this one company four time for different positions. Two of them dealt with customer service and working the phone and the others dealt with content moderation. The last interview the person who set-up the interview told me the company wouldn’t move forward with me because I have ” no energy” plus lack of customer service experience. The customer service I get, but the “no energy” am just not sure what to make about it. Have any of you ever been told or told someone that they displayed “no energy” show lack of enthusiasm?
Am not sure how to process that. Am really not a outspoken individual. I go to these job interviews, yes am nervous, but am also clam. Maybe my voice doesn’t project with high energy. It hard to try to be something that you are not.
I found this one article online that best explain my situation am in a little bit better.
I usually don’t talk about being an introvert. For one, it really doesn’t matter to me. I am who I am and I can’t change that. No, I am not anti-social, in fact I love meeting people and hanging out. Yes I do prefer to be alone, sometime, and usually don’t have too much to talk about. Am shy, clam, and reserve, but it just depends on the situation.
Job Interviewing would be one of those situations where I think my introvert personality can be effecting the interviewer decision whether to hire me or not. For one, when I speak in a calm tone during an interview. I don’t show too much enthusiasm or excitement for the position or for the question being asked. Especially for questions that ask you for details how you handle or dealt with a situation. Am sorry, I am not a great story-teller so my answers are just simple. Which I think can be mistaken that am not interested in the position and can’t I handle the job duties required.
