I really enjoying reading R.J. Koreto books. This is my 3rd book that I’ve read by him. Alice and the Assassin, President Teddy Roosevelt’s is now President after that assassination of President William McKinley. Roosevelts and his family are now under Secret Service protection. His daughter, 17 years old Alice Roosevelt is protected by agent Joseph St.Clair a former cowboy and veteran of the Rough Riders.
Alice take it upon her self to start investigating the recent killing of President McKinley. Asking questions and requesting to speak with potential suspects with whom had contact with the assassin. Her interest in the matter raises suspicion among someone or a group of people. With so many unanswered question Alice fear for her Father life. With her secret Service bodyguard they travel through New York to find those who seek power, money and will kill for it.
My last last book I read was by R.J. Koreto, Death on the Sapphire. He has a second call Death among Rubies. Lady Frances Ffolkes travels with her dear friends Gwendolyn and Thomasina to Kesrel’s eyrie. The estates belongs to Gwen family. Before traveling to the estates, Lady Frances learns her friends have been threaten and seeks to find the individual(s) responsible. As she and her friends make their way to the estates, Gwen’s father, a powerful diplomat is murder with his most valuable ruby dagger. Knowing that her brother wouldn’t approve of her getting involved in solving this case, Lady Frances along with her maid June Mallow get to work to finding the murder. Interviewing guest and the servants working at the estate, but also learning about the family relationship between Gwen and her Aunt whose task is to run the affair of the estate.
Death on the Sappire by R.J. Koreto. Lady Frances Ffolkes, a young lady who is intelligent, a very out going personality, and you can say a independent young lady. I would compare her to a Marry Poppins, but a younger version. Of course without the nanny like traits. Major Colcombe who is a war veteran and a close family friend dies from a mysterious circumstances. Major Colcombe was in the process of completing a manuscript about his war experience in South Africa. Detailing the lost of life from fighting the war, but now with his death, the manuscript are missing.
Lady Frances Ffolkes take task in tracking down the missing manuscript and to find who responsible for Major Colocombe death, along with her loyal lady’s maid, June Mallow. Not only facing society sexist views against women, she find herself in the mist of challenges trying to track down this missing manuscript.
It took awhile, but I finally finish my 2nd book. The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith. This was my first time reading a crime novel book. When I started reading, I had to kind of take it slow and re-read the first two chapters since there was so much information: the crime scene, the characters and who they are.
I enjoyed reading the book and I never thought that the killer would be the person who it ended up being. I don’t want give out the name or too much details and spoil it for future readers. It was just awesome reading the scene when Strike tells the killer that he knew it was him and just breaking it down how he found out. I was ready for guns to pop out, thinking that Strike had a hidden gun hide somewhere and the killer had his, but nope that didn’t happen. Awhile reading the book I was thinking that the relationship between Strike and his assistant Robin would become something more. He always miss the presents of her company and she never did want to leave the job. Beside Robin was a attractive women and it just felt that she spent more time with Strike then her boyfriend.
So now I will start my next book which is a Zombie book. A lady that I work with, suggested that I read this author books since he is a native of Texas. He does have several books, so am starting off with his first book. Oh! yes this is my first zombie book that I ever read and no I never did read War World Z. Do you have any suggestions on books I should consider reading?
