Daily Prompt: Conversation

“A Good conversation is like a miniskirt; short enough to retain interest, but long enough to cover the subject.”

If there something that I need some improvement in is my ability to communicate with people face to face. To be able to have an interesting conversation with someone. Am sure everyone could work on there face to face conversation skills since most of us are glued to our cell phones and to social media.

I don’t mind having a conversation with strangers when I walk around town or sitting at Starbucks.  Well I do try to avoid the religious, crazy looking people, but they seem to find me when am at Starbucks, waiting for the bus or on the bus. I think am a magnetic for people like that, but that a whole another story.  Having a face to face conversation is a challenge for me, especially among friends.  No, am not anti-social, it just what do you talk about?  These days you have to be careful what topic of conversation you bring up because you just don’t know how people will react. They might get offended or might not want to associate with you because of your opinions.  You can go with the basic conversation like how was your day? What did you do this weekend? but that can get boring. What do you ask the next time you see that person? It can make you sound like a broken record.

How do you keep your conversation interesting when talking with friends and people?

  1. Communication is one of the key skills, in both professional and personal lives. A lot of times we talk, but rarely do we communicate, so much so that the receiver understands exactly where we are coming from and vice versa. This is one goal that I have too this year, to communicate better. And by that, I mean actually, face-to-face communication.

I think two ways to get better at this are: (1) Observe how other people communicate (the ones who we feel are good at it (2) Practicing the art of communication ourselves.

Here’s to a good year ahead!
